At the heart of the community of the town, Chesham United Football Club plays host to Buckinghamshire's highest ranked non-league football team, competing as a part-time club alongside full-time teams with significantly higher budgets and resources in the National League South.
However, it is not just about the first-team. For many years now the club has offered the pitch and facilities for neighbours Aylesbury United to groundshare the pitch, plus the Chesham United Women's team use the main pitch for all their home matches. All of this is before the pitch gets used for end of season community matches and the hugely popular Alex Horne Charity Match - all of this, alongside unprecedented rainfall, has seen the pitch damaged to a point of critical disrepair and significant funds are required to install new drainage and carry out a full restoration over the summer.
With hundreds of kids associated to the youth section and crowds often pushing 1,000 on First XI matchdays it is important the pitch is returned to a state that enables it to continue to be such a popular community asset.
The current drainage system was installed nearly 35 years ago, back in 1991, and has now completely failed, becoming clogged up and leading to a number of postponements due to waterlogging. The intention is to laser level the pitch from side to side and the smallest gradient from end to end slightly less. This involves removing huge amounts of soil away, installing new drainage and then restoring the soil and laying a new pitch - All in time for the new season.
If you can help and would like to donate to the fund, it would be hugely appreciated.
