Cancer is a word we hoped as a family we would never have to hear or endure. In November of 2022, our lives changed in an instant and haven’t slowed down since. Cheryl had a spot on her arm removed locally and test results came back positive as “Merkel Cell Carcinoma”. Surgery quickly followed as this cancer is very aggressive and not very common. December 15th surgery went well, and a large portion of her left forearm was removed as well as several lymph nodes from her left armpit. While it isn’t the prettiest, we are happy to report that they believe they got all the cancer from her arm. As tests continued pathology reports came in and they were not favorable. Cancer has now made its home in her lymph nodes and other areas are a huge concern.
Tammy Walker in Salina has been a blessing, but we have to travel to Seattle to get the best care possible and the best treatment possible to beat this. Cheryl will not be able to work for some time and travel expenses as well as living arrangements in Seattle will be a mountain, but we are optimistic that we can climb that mountain. It’s hard to ask but we just don’t know how to do it alone anymore. If you feel inclined to help know that there are two basic ways. First is your prayers and encouragement. There are days that encouragement goes a long way as we both struggle to find that emotionally and mentally at times. The last is financial. Finances will be used to secure airline tickets back and forth to Seattle over the next several months. Lost income, as well as other health insurance deductibles. We hold strong that God has a bigger picture for us we just have to walk in faith and be patient to see his mercy shown. We will praise him in this storm.
