Cheryl Thompson -- the gift of independence
Donation protected
Cheryl Thompson has a simple request -- "I just want to be able to go outside and get some fresh air." That simple task, one we all do without thinking, isn't possible for Cheryl without the aid of a motorized wheelchair.
Hi, my name is Beth and I'm asking for donations for a fellow classmate from Central High School -- our dear friend Cheryl Thompson. I invite all classmates, friends and family to donate to Cheryl. She needs help with purchasing a motorized wheelchair, a Life Alert System, training for her service dog, ongoing medical care, and coping with the mountains of debt for her medical needs.
Cheryl is struggling with some severe medical conditions. She has Chronic Myeloid Leukemia and has had repeated MRSA infections. In addition, she suffers from chronic pain as a result of degenerative disc disease and the after-effects of a horrific motorcycle accident -- she was lucky to survive. Cheryl has had repeated surgeries over the past few years. Some of the surgeries were failures, such as a knee surgery to replace her crushed knee. Surgery on her spine resulted in Thoracic Myelopathy, severe swelling in her legs and extreme pain, and instability. These surgeries not only didn't improve her health but, in some cases, made it much worse. This lovely, vibrant woman currently weighs 100 pounds (she's 5'7"). She's too weak to walk anymore and is confined to a wheelchair, and of course, driving isn't an option either.
Her main caregiver is her loving husband, Wes. She's dependent on him to help her with most of her daily needs. She has 3 children and 6 grandchildren. Cheryl is incredibly grateful for the support of her family but craves the ability to be a little independent -- to breathe fresh air without the aid of someone pushing her borrowed wheelchair.
Cheryl just wants to make her life, and her family's, a little easier, as she deals with the ongoing repercussions of these devasting diagnoses and medical complications.
