Cherishing Cindy's Time with Us

Update on Cindy:

We want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for the love, prayers, shares, and donations for Cindy. After further lab work and meeting with our family veterinarian, we made the incredibly difficult decision to let her rest and say goodbye peacefully at home.

Treatment for her heart was successful but unfortunately her kidneys weren’t strong enough. Our original prognosis went from 12 to 18 months to a few months to a matter of days.
This was not the outcome we hoped for, but it was the kindest choice to ease her pain. Cindy was deeply loved and will always be part of our family.

The funds raised are helping cover her emergency hospital care, diagnostics, and end-of-life expenses. If anyone still wishes to donate or share, it truly means more than I can put into words.

Thank you for supporting us in any way you have during this truly difficult time.

Hi everyone,
We’re reaching out with heavy hearts to ask for support for our sweet little dog, and beloved member of our family, Cindy.

A few months ago, we learned that Cindy had a heart murmur and an enlarged heart. She was started on medication, and at the time, we were hopeful that would be enough to manage her condition. Over the past week, everything changed.
We noticed Cindy struggling with labored breathing and knew something wasn’t right. After visits to our family veterinarian and then an emergency pet hospital, Cindy was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. We were given a prognosis of 12 to 18 months, with careful treatment and close monitoring.

She was re-hospitalized Saturday morning for her as breathing became labored once again. This time around require a slightly longer stay and while her heart is doing well and breathing is stable, unfortunately, the treatment came at the risk of her kidney health and the we got the devastating news that she now has kidney disease as well.

The prognosis of 12 to 18 months is no longer the expectation but doctors do say that she can get back home and continue treatment and comfort care for some time. Our hope is that she can return home and continue her treatment with medication—allowing us to cherish as much quality time with her as possible, while we can.

This situation has been especially heartbreaking for us because we recently lost two of our other beloved dogs, Zero (our German Shepherd) and Pee-wee (our Corgi), just 7–8 months ago. After so much loss in such a short time, we are doing everything in our power to give Cindy comfort, care, and love until we know it’s truly time to say goodbye. Unfortunately, the cost of emergency care has been overwhelming. The two ER visits alone have totaled close to $10,000, and this does not include:
  • Ongoing, expensive heart medications she will need indefinitely
  • Follow-up lab work and veterinary visits

We are humbly asking for help from friends, family, and anyone who feels moved to support us. Any amount—no matter how small—means more than we can express. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser or keeping Cindy in your thoughts also helps immensely.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to read Cindy’s story and for supporting us during this incredibly difficult time. Every bit of kindness helps us focus on what matters most: giving Cindy the love, care, and dignity she deserves.

With gratitude,
Ellie & Rey
