My name is Christen Charlton. My husband, Verron, and I have decided to start a GoFundMe page for our daughter, Cherea who has been battling with Sickle Cell Disease. Cherea is 16 years old and is an 11th grader at Government High School. Being diagnosed since birth, we have watched our baby girl fight for her life daily. In 2017, Cherea has experienced 2 episodes of being unresponsive and was later diagnosed with Acute Chest Syndrome and Vas-occlusive Pain Crisis Condition. Because the condition is escalating faster than we could have ever anticipated, it is our wish to seek medical assistance at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Florida.
Cherea has made a name for herself here in the Bahamas, with her facebook page @thegirlwithsicklecell. She uses this page the share her episodes with others to help them understand what persons with sickle cell experience. In 2017, she challenged herself to begin the #BoldLipsForSickleCell Challenge here in the Bahamas to bring awareness to this disease. Over 1000 persons were inspired to participate! We were amazed to see the way she had impacted her peers and others noticed too! She began to receive interview invites for various Radio Talk Shows and Web Shows.
Cherea aspires to one day be an amazing cosmetologist, and she has already started building a clientele, even at such a young age. Although her condition has forced her, on several occasions, to be absent from school she has maintained above 3.0 GPA. Cherea continuously brings new meaning to the word “strength”, and we wish to see her continue pursuing those dreams. We realize that in order to do so, she needs the best care, which is why we are asking for your help. The money donated will be sent directly to her account at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. We thank you in advance for helping our baby girl!
