On behalf of my aunt Ana Maria Astudillo, we're seeking funds to help cover the cost of my cousin's hospital bills. Our family has been unable to keep up with the expenses, which have outpaced our capacity.
Cheo (Jose Jesus) is 39 years old and was struck by a vehicle on January 1st at 11am on his way to work. By some miracle, he's alive and fighting to remain stable, but Peruvian health insurance refuses to cover the hospital expenses after the first day.
He's suffered from severe head trauma and is currently in a coma. He will likely lose his vision, and it's unclear what kind of brain injury he might have to live with.
We're gathering funds to cover the clinic's daily cost (~$2K USD a day), as well as the cost of surgery, medication, and expected physical therapy.
Cheo is such a joyous, funny, and caring person. He's one of the most community-oriented people I know. In the cover photo, you see Cheo with his sister Maria Jose, who's been his caretaker during his coma.
Our family in Peru has been finding ways to pay for the expenses, and we would love any support you can share. Thank you!
