Help Cheney Tech SkillsUSA winners go to Nationals
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Tracey and I am helping to raise funds for the Howell Cheney Technical High School students who won first place in the annual SkillsUSA Connecticut State Conference for 2024. SkillsUSA is an organization that showcases skilled adolescents nationwide in professionalism, leadership, and trade skills. Students who win 1st place in their contest at the state level, are invited to compete at the national level in Atlanta, Georgia. The SkillsUSA National Conference is a massive 5 day event where 1st place students from all over the country get to network, compete, and experience something many of their peers will never get the chance to see.
In order to transport students with their luggage and their Skills USA advisor (April Norell) to Nationals, the school is trying to cover the funds for travel costs. The trip is planned by the Connecticut SkillsUSA Executive Director, Heidi Griffin. There is a block of hotel rooms booked and a private plane chartered for competing Connecticut students with their personal equipment and all necessary tools. This year the cost is $2000 per student and $2000 per chaperone. This cost covers transportation, hotel, shuttles, t-shirts and the registration fee for Nationals. The school needs to raise a minimum of $8000 by May 1, 2024 for the three competing students and their SkillsUSA advisor to attend this year's National conference taking place June 24 - June 28, 2024.
I am proud to say that my son, Bo Brown, 11th grade, took 1st place in the welding competition! He was provided with a blueprint that included welding symbols to assemble a steel weldment of varied thicknesses using shielded metal arc welding and gas tungsten arc welding (with lift arc only).
Myaliz Lopez and Milka Azcueta-Dominguez, an 11th grade team of two, took 1st place in the TV production digital media competition! They were instructed to create a 3-5 minute commercial.
If you are able to contribute a donation towards this once in a lifetime opportunity for the Howell Cheney Technical High School's three competitors for 2024, it would be so greatly appreciated. All donations will go directly to the school and any amount you are able to gift will help these talented young students on this amazing journey.
