Chemotherapy for Said Orozco
Donation protected

Recently, Said Orozco was diagnosed with Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, an aggressive cancer that is fatal if left untreated. However, this lymphoma is sensitive and more easily destroyed by chemotherapy than many other types of cancer so that approximately 2/3 of the people with this diagnosis survive if they are properly treated. Because of the worldwide pandemic, tourism has completely ceased in Loreto, and Said abruptly stopped working in February 2020. Coronavirus has also upended his ability to receive medical care. The public medical system in México is inundated with coronavirus cases at this time, with currently 124,000 cases nationwide. Therefore, he must go through the private medical system, which is obviously far more expensive. Said’s chemotherapy treatments alone will cost approximately $60,000 pesos (around $1500 USD) every month for 5 to 6 months. Because Loreto is isolated and a medical desert, Said will have to travel to La Paz (3-4 hours away) for treatment and doctor visits; the doctor charges $3,000 pesos (approximately $150 USD) per visit. The cheapest way to get to La Paz, through a rideshare, is approximately $1,500 pesos ($75 USD) each time that he travels. Accordingly, Said seeks to raise $450,000 pesos or $20,000 USD. If you would like to assist Said with his financial burden, any donation would be appreciated. Thank you for keeping Said and his passion alive!
