KAYE'S STORY
A year ago in April 2019, my dear friend Kaye underwent emergency surgery for an intestinal blockage. During that surgery it was discovered that Kaye has stage 3 colon cancer and a large part of her intestine was removed.
Since then she has been working diligently to improve her health and beat this potentially life threatening disease. Unfortunately the cancer has metastasized to her liver making it stage 4. The only remedy traditional medicine has offered her is all or nothing mega-doses of Chemo.
In her search for a more appropriate treatment, Kaye has found Dr. Winkler in Carlsbad who has recommended lower dose Chemo treatments accompanied by additional treatments that minimize the impact of the Chemo on her body and immune system. Dr. Winkler's credentials are superior and he trains hospitals and oncologists on his low dose Chemo protocol. But this is not covered by Medicare.
Consequently Kaye is on her own to pay for these treatments which can save her life. Each treatment costs $1,800. Dr. Winkler estimates 2 treatments a week for the next 2 weeks, 1 treatment a week for the next 6 weeks, 1 treatment every other week for the next 8 weeks, and finally 1 treatment per month for 2 months. This will cost just shy of $30,000 for 6 months of low dose Chemo none of which is covered by Kaye's insurance.
While Kaye is still actively helping people find their dream homes, you can imagine that between her illness and CoVid-19 her ability to maintain the cash flow needed to support this additional cost has been diminished. As her long time friend, I am willing to help her defer some of these costs and I am hoping that the many of you Kaye has worked with and friended over past years will also rally to her aid. We need Kaye's optimistic spirit, kindness, and dedication to making our lives better to continue. Please contribute. The need is urgent.
Thank you.
