Chelsi’s Story

Chelsi was first diagnosed with Stage 3B lung cancer in June of 2015.  From that time, she has been valiantly fighting this disease through every course of treatment that her oncologists have prescribed including chemotherapy, immunotherapy and gene targeted therapy.  Unfortunately, despite all of these treatments, Chelsi progressed into stage 4 very quickly, which means that the cancer spread to neighboring lymph nodes and eventually her brain.  Chelsi underwent 3 rounds of GAMA knife radiation to her brain which were successful in treating those specific spots.  One possible side effect of the radiation to the brain is swelling around the damaged areas.  Chelsi previously was working full time amongst being a mother and cancer patient, but when the swelling occurred in her brain in August of 2019, she was forced to go on disability and stop working.  Over the past 8 months, Chelsi’s health has continued to decline with vision changes, balance difficulties and memory/concentration issues forcing her to rely on others to help her care for herself and her family.

In the past week, Chelsi and her family received the most devastating news from her cancer team:  despite Chelsi’s will to fight and desire to continue to try every angle, her body has deteriorated to the point that it is shutting down.  This means that her oncologist has decided that there are no other courses of action that can be taken for treatment that won’t detrimentally affect her quality of life.  Chelsi and her family were shocked by the news.

As everyone is aware, the current Coronovirus pandemic is very risky and even deadly to those with underlying health concerns.  Chelsi’s lung cancer places her at very high risk with this illness.  That is making it impossible for her to see or receive any forms of donations externally from her loved ones and friends.  Monetary donations are the only safe forms of donations that her family can receive at this time.  These donations will be used to pay for her costly forms of treatments, which at this time include hospice.  They will also be used for household expenses as well as eventual funeral costs.  If enough  money is raised, excess funds will be set  aside to create accounts for her children, Alexis (9 years old) and Cooper (6 years old).

Chelsi, her husband Erik, their children, and her immediate family want to thank all of their family and friends for their continued support during these tough times.
