It's 2020, and Chelsea has been battling breast cancer like a boss while pursuing her passion living and working overseas. Even while juggling cancer treatment, full work days, and the challenge of learning a new medical system, Chelsea's continued to bring her usual light and humor to brighten the lives of those around her. She's the first to show support when her friends and family need a hand, and we'd like to show her some love in return!
New Zealand's borders are currently closed to most foreigners, but Chelsea's mom Jennifer has been granted a special "compassionate visa" to enter the country for a brief stay. She'll be traveling to New Zealand to support Chelsea through her final chemotherapy treatment later this month.
While she's had great care in New Zealand, going through treatment with your main support system in a different hemisphere is just one more challenge no one asked for this year. We'd like to help fund the costs of Jennifer's journey, so that Chelsea can heal with her mom by her side and without the stress of funding the logistics.
Funds raised through your donations would help cover:
- NZ government mandated two week quarantine for Jennifer on arrival (about $2,000).
This is not only a legal requirement, it's also essential to help protect Chelsea's lowered immune system in the age of Covid
- last-minute flights to New Zealand and back (about $3,000)
- lodging for Chelsea and her mom (estimated to be about $2,000 for 2.5 weeks)
Chelsea lives in a shared flat, but we'd like to pamper and her mom with a little space to themselves to rest and recover for a couple of weeks before Jennifer returns to the States.
- transportation within Wellington
- some meals for Chelsea and Jennifer during the visit
- any other miscellaneous trip logistics that come up
Any additional funds raised will be used to help lower the costs of Chelsea's medical treatment (these are much more manageable in New Zealand than they would be in the States, but cancer's never cheap).
Every dollar makes a difference! But if you can't afford to donate at this time, we completely understand. Feel free to send along some words of encouragement for Chelsea instead - she'd love to know you're with her as she rebuilds her health this year.
