INDIGO FARMS - START UP COSTS & INFRASTRUCTURE
Donación protegida
Raising funds for farm startup cost and infrastructure.
We, Robert Brown and Jana Bates, two DC chefs that have worked in award winning restaurants, are going from cooking farm fresh food to growing the food themselves. We are excited for this new path in our culinary careers. Over the past three years we have been busy learning about what's essential to be successful farmers and land stewards. We have volunteered at area farms and developed many strong relationships. One has developed into being mentored by veteran farmers at Mount Pleasant Acres Farm in Maryland. Robert has also been enrolled in the Future Harvest-Beginning Farmer Training Program, currently in year one of a three year program, that teaches new and upcoming farms to be the next generation of farmers.
We are starting a sustainable agritourism farm in Maryland using regenerative practices without the use of pesticides and chemicals. While growing various crops, we'll host visitors in tiny homes on the farm, conduct farm tours, pick your own strawberries, conduct classes on canning and cooking using the products grown on the farm.
Our youth classes will motivate urban youth to become more self sufficient, and gain and use the knowledge of generational wealth through land owning and estate planning.
Providing a space to learn to grow mentally, physically, and emotionally by implementing a volunteer program to teach agricultural methods.
