Chef's Call (A Short Film)

Chef's Call is the story of a Hispanic line cook stuck in the hustle of a corporate steakhouse.

I am Kat Hernandez, the writer, and producer of "Chef's Call." My team and I are film students at the University of Central Arkansas working on our capstone project, "Chef's Call."

All of us on this project has had some experience in the food industry on all sides and have lived through the unnoticed work for the service everyone uses.

I have worked primarily in a restaurant, from register to line cook. For years I dreamed of being a cook, and I almost went down that path. Within the time I have worked for different restaurants, I have seen a fraction of the struggle many have become trapped in. I listened to many of these stories and paired them with my own stories creating a tale unappreciated. I want to be the voice for the essential workers in our day-to-day lives.

Much of our budget is in-kind with equipment, crew, and time, but we still need help to complete this film to our highest vision. We are looking to raise funds for this project to pay for locations, trained actors, cooking stunts, costumes, and food to feed everyone on this project. We aim for around $8,000 to $10,000 in funds or in-kind donations to have a film the creators and the viewers can be proud of.
