Chef Reginald Watkins aka "Chef Reggie" needs our help.
My name is Sari Worsham, and I am from Chicago.
I worked along side Chef Reggie for 13 years at Charlie Trotter's and consider him family, as many of you do as well.
Many of you trained under him in the restaurant as I did at Charlie Trotter’s, and learned techniques and lessons that guided you towards your own success. Reggie always had everyone's back and took extra care of those that needed it most. It is now our turn to return the favor.
Reggie just moved to Baton Rouge just over a week ago to start a new job. His timing couldn't have been worse. The strong storms and catastrophic flooding took over his new apartment. Reggie had to swim out of his apartment building with nothing but the clothes on his back. He clung to a tree in the water for as long as he could until he was rescued and taken to a make shift shelter. He just got out of the shelter today. He is so grateful to have had a shelter to escape the flood, he was with over 2, 000 other displaced folks. Together they made the best of it and slept on concrete floors and shared their stories of survival. When talking to Reggie earlier today he said he felt like he was in a disaster movie that would never end.
The restaurant where he just started to work was damaged significantly from the flood and is not sure if they will ever reopen. So not only is Reggie in a new town where he knows no one he is without work, has lost his car (floated away in the flood), and no longer has a safe home to live in.
The funds from this page go directly to Reggie immediately to his bank account to use for housing, living expenses, food, water, and clothing. Please contribute to his fund if you can. If you can't donate please keep him in your thoughts. I know Reggie's words of wisdom have made a strong impact on so many of us. One of my favorites is "Oatmeal is better than no meal", and I am sure Reggie would do anything for a nice warm bowl of oatmeal right now.
