Buenas and Olomwaay! My name is Lucinda Selepeo. My brother is Randy Rosario. You may know him as the jovial and loud chef at the Shack, Aqua Resort, or even at the Hyatt. If you’ve ever crossed paths with “Chef Dee”, as he is known to most, you’ll know that he never fails to greet and welcome you.
In November of last year, he noticed a small nodule on his tongue that eventually went away. It returned and went away numerous times before by the end of December last year. In January the nodule was present again, but this time it did not go away. On January 19, after the nodule became very sore, I took my brother to the hospital. On January 22, a biopsy was performed that confirmed that it was indeed a tumor. On January 26, we were informed by the oncologist at the CHCC that the cancer reached Stage 4 and that he would need to be referred to Los Angeles for further treatment.
Since he was a kid, he wanted nothing more than to make his family proud and contribute to his community. He graduated from the Marianas Baptist Academy and attained his Associates Degree from NMC, and then left Saipan for Hawaii to continue to pursue his education. In Hawaii, while taking classes and working part-time as a cook, he came to discover what he loved and wanted to do as a career. He wanted to be a chef. He wanted to bring happiness to people in this way. In 2010, our Dad, Frank Rosario, had a series of strokes and Randy returned to Saipan to care for him.
I don’t think Randy has ever asked for a handout in his life. He has worked since he was a teenager. I am asking for the help that he needs right now. We are preparing for his surgery in Los Angeles at USC Medical. We are grateful for all of the assistance provided through the referral service. Unfortunately though, there are other related expenses. We are trying to raise funds to assist with costs related to the accompaniment of a family member and all of the peripheral expenses that are not covered by the medical referral.
We are very thankful to the CHCC and their Oncology Doctor for all their assistance and service. We are hopeful that the surgery may be successful in ridding him of this cancer. We don’t yet know what his medical regime will be like following the surgery. Right now, we are focused on getting through the referral process and seeing him into surgery so he can make a full recovery.
Thank you for taking time to read about Randy’s story and thank you for any help you can offer to help Randy through this. Thank you!
