To say that the last year has been a struggle is a vast understatement. Nothing of what any of us have been through collectively and individually has been easy. 2020 tested us all beyond our limits, and as we push forward in 2021 we look to continue persevering. If there is a single quality I can say my time at MacArthur Park has taught me it is the value of perseverance. It is synonymous to who we are as Cheetahs. We persevere through language barriers, through challenges, socio economic difficulties, technology issues, everything under the sun, we at MacArthur Park persevere through. I have seen us all so many times come together to help the kids in our school, they bind us and while we teach them of perseverance we also teach ourselves, there is nothing we can’t do because like cheetahs we are resilient. Now I humbly ask us to come together again to help two of our cubs. As many of you know I am the healthcare assistant for Galilea who is now in 3rd grade. A few weeks back Gali, her sister Tania (5th grade) and their Mom Catarina, faced a catastrophic loss with the sudden passing of their father and husband Pedro Zarat. While the family has arrangements for his passing they are going to need a lot of financial support and support in general as the head of their household is no longer physically with them. I am personally committed to helping them as much as I can and if you can help in any way, know that for this family it goes a long way. No amount is too small... I am also dropping things off from time to time if you would like to arrange a drop off with me that will also help.
As Amanda Gorman said in her inaugural poem:
“For there is always light,
if only we're brave enough to see it
If only we're brave enough to be it”
Help me be a sliver of light for these girls as they navigate through uncharted waters, thank you for continuing to persevere and for showing our students the value in it.
