Patti is many things to many people: she is the sort of friend who feels like family, and the sort of family you would choose for a friend. To me, she is my godmother, my first penpal, and my oldest friend. And right now, more than ever, this very special person needs our help.
Patti is currently seeking treatment for an extensive melanoma metastic disease, which encompasses her lower spine, her ninth rib, her pelvic bone, parts of her lungs, and a number of lymph nodes. Vulvar melanoma is a rare cancer which affects only 2% of women diagnosed with cancer. There are very few studies of this, and it normally affects women in their late 60s or 70s. Given Patti's younger age and overall health, we believe Patti has the best possible scenario for positive acceptance to the treatment. She begins immunotherapy and chemo next week.
