Cheeks4Syria is a fundraising campaign created by Entrepreneurship students at North Park Secondary School in Brampton, Ontario CANADA.
The students have been moved by all the events that happened in relation to Syria, especially the image of Aylan Kurdin, the toddler that washed up on a Turkish beach in early September.
The class set up this GoFundMe.com campaign to support Lifeline Syria, a community-based organization in Toronto that is helping to match private refugee sponsors in Ontario with Syrian refugees approved for resettlement by the federal government.
Our goal of $30,000 is the approximate cost associated with the income support and startup funds needed for a family of five (5) to live in the Greater Toronto Area during their first year of settlement.
To promote our campaign, the class has decided to undertake a very unique fundraising campaign. Outside of regular social media advertising and school-based activities - the students have decided to become walking billboards
By applying temporary tattoos to their faces during the duration of the campaign, students plan to advertise our our message everywhere they go. The plan is to communicate “GoFundMe" (our fundraising vehicle) on one cheek and "Cheeks4Syria," the name of our class project on the other.
As the teacher of these students, I am extremely proud of all of them for the hard work and passion they’ve demonstrated in the planning of this campaign. Now, the true fun begins – running the campaign – and I’m really looking forward to seeing them shine.
True learning happens best when students are exposed to real life situations where they can have a direct impact. In addition to the financial result we accomplish with this campaign and the impact it will have for the refugees benefitting from your generosity, students will gain life long learning skills and build character that will remain with them for the rest of their personal and professional lives.
