When I was 22, the doctors told me I would never be able to live on my own. They said I’d always need someone to care for me, that independence was out of reach. But I refused to accept that. I found a way to live my life, and that way was Blythe, my service dog. She helped me by alerting to my heart condition so to help keep me from passing out ot tasking when I did pass out, she guided me when I was dizzy, and she steadied me with her body. She was more than just a dog—she was my lifeline, my best friend. With her by my side, I learned to navigate the world, one day at a time, and I felt whole.
But like most good things, our journey together has come to a end.
Now, I find myself needing another service dog. It's not just about finding a dog; it’s about finding the right dog, one with the right temperament, one who can do the job and be my companion in the way Blythe once was. These dogs are special, and because of that, they can be costly. But I know this is the only way I can regain my independence and live my life the way I deserve to.
