My father had been going for check ups for months, when things began getting serious it was 6/5/2020. Since then, he had lost his voice and his ability to eat. The doctors had prolonged an oncology appointment because of a required COVID testing. During this time, my father's condition worsened. We received an oncology report 7/24/2020. The report showed that he had a large tumor growing in his esophagus near his wind pipe and was ordered to go to the ER immediately where he was admitted for further testing. Ultimately, my dad got sent home with equipment for in-home TPN treatment. They had to perform a biopsy on my fathers tumor and told us they needed more samples to conclude his condition. This had prolonged the treatments necessary for his recovery. August 6th, 2020, PET/CT scan showed that my father had Stage 4 Esophagus cancer that had advanced remarkably fast. The doctor's steps moving forward were to start radiation to shrink the tumor. August 9th, my father was rushed to the ER ascribed to complications breathing. They ran some more tests and the doctors had told us the cancer spread to his lungs. The surgery wasn’t a viable option due to where the tumor was and if removed, they could damage the windpipe and inevitably prevent him from breathing again. He was then sent home for hospice care to which my dad denied and wanted to attempt treatment. August 12, 2020 will be the first treatment of radiation. Due to the huge hospital costs, we are asking for help to cover bills.
My father is a role model and father figure to anyone in his walks of life. He’s been married for 24 years to my mother Bophal Ly (45). He has 3 sons, Sova Chea (22), Jason Chea (17), David Chea (15). He has not given up and neither will we.
Thank you for all your support and help during this very difficult time. My family and I appreciate it very much.
