Help orphanage get bus and school!

Casa Hogar Elim orphanage is home to 80 children in the Mexican border town of Nuevo Laredo.  These children come from  difficult situations with family who cannot or will  not care for them.
They often have lived in poverty and have had only intermittent access to school.  Without education, they are much more likely to be inducted into the cartel, fall into prostitution, experience early pregnancy, or become addicted to alcohol or drugs.  Thankfully,  Casa Hogar Elim will be their home for as long as they need it to be and ensuring children receive a solid education has been a core objective of Casa Hogar Elim since it first began in 1986.

As a private orphanage, Casa Hogar Elim does not receive funding from the government.  Needs like the ones discussed here fall far outside of what their budget can bear.  They need our help with two specific and immediate needs related to education.

NEED #1  Transportation
Can you imagine logistics for transporting 60+ children?  This is a daily need at  Casa Hogar Elim, requiring several 15 passenger vans that consume a lot of gas and multiple drivers.  At $3.56 per gallon, the expense of using the vans  limits what activities and educational opportunities the children can be involved in.

The good news is that Casa Hogar Elim recently received a school bus as a gift.   The bad news is they were surprised with significant import fees that must be paid before the bus can enter into Mexico.

$2500 for license and import fees to bring donated school bus into Mexico.  This is needed by Sept 15, 2018.

NEED #2
Casa Hogar Elim recently opened a small kindergarten and special needs school to ensure even the smallest and uniquely challenged child can be prepared for school.  The obstacle they now face is that the building has very high ceilings and no air conditioning making for extremely hot rooms. This is Mexico.  The little ones will return to school next week with temperatures over 100 degrees every day.  Teachers can't teach and students can't learn in that environment.

Lowering the ceiling,  adding a few walls and air conditioning/heating units are all that is needed to make this space one where children can flourish and be prepared to enter the school system.

$8,400 to add walls, ceiling and air conditioning /heating to kindergarten and special needs school.  This is needed by Sept 15, 2018.

They  cannot do this without your help.  Will you join the team and help create the foundation needed for these children to thrive?  Your donation is a building block in their future!
