I am reaching out to do something I really dislike doing; asking others for help.
I am in need of $2,170.00 to pay back taxes owed on my home. I only have until the middle of April to come up with it.
In 2023, I decided to look into a reverse mortgage to take care of some things that I needed and wanted to do. The majority of this was getting another vehicle because the one I had would no longer pass inspection. The company I was working with assured me they could get me approved, even though I told them that I live on SSI disability income of less than $1,000 a month. I had some money laid back toward the taxes at that time. The loan company sent a woman around to do an appraisal on the property. While she was here, she was very friendly.
Several days later, I got a call from the loan company telling me that there was a list of things I needed to do or have done before she would give them a proper appraisal. I was required to paint all the trim around the outside the house, paint all the trim around the storage shed, paint several ceilings and walls inside the house, remove all tall grass on the property and she wanted all the trees and bushes removed from around the house as well. I told them I would not remove the trees and bushes as they were flowering types. When I ask why all this needed done, I was told it was for “curb appeal”. Since I live back a one lane dirt road next to the woods, I was wondering who it was for; the deer?, the bear?, or maybe the raccoons and skunks? Doing all this required me to spend the money I had laid back. When I expressed my concerns about this, they just told me not to worry, things were going to be finished up soon. This calling back and forth went on for 8 months!
After doing most of the things they wanted done, I had spent every bit of the money I had laid back. They kept telling me we would be closing soon and everything would be taken care of. I decided after 8 months that I needed to get a firm date as to closing on the loan. I called up the company and was put on hold. When the woman came on, I ask about the closing date. She was cold and abrupt, basically telling me there was “nothing we can do for you!” When I ask what happened to the fact we were supposed to be closing, she just said, “Well things changed.“ and that I would not be getting a loan. When I said about all the money they had me spend out, she just said “We can’t help you.” and hung up! When I checked on Jan 5, 2025, the company's website is gone and all the phone numbers have been disconnected. They are no longer in business. This has left me in the situation I am in, having to ask for help from you. Please, I need to save my home, as I have no other place to go and no family that can help.
Thank you for your consideration.
