Chaunte : Paralyzed but hopeful
"It's amazing how your life can change in an instant," said Melanie as she sat by the hospital bedside of her husband Chaun Reaves.
On Wednesday morning, July 12, 2017, Chaun was in a horrific car crash. The driver and back seat passenger was killed upon impact. Chaun survived with severe head and spinal cord injuries and had to be airlifted to a medical facility in San Antonio. By Wednesday night, he had emgergency surgery, an Anterior Fusion, on his spine to stabilize his neck. He is currently on a breathing tube that is assisting him as needed. He is only able to respond to yes and no questions by shaking or nodding his head. He does have slight movement in his shoulders but he is unable to feel anything below his chest (for now). And on top of all that, Chaun does not have insurance because he recently changed jobs.
Melanie is devotedly traveling back and forth from Houston to San Antonio to be by his side while her Mother and Step-father watch over their two year old daughter. She is now their sole source of income and has to carefully mange her time between taking care of her husband and maintaining her job.
Chaun is going to need extensive long-term care and rehabilitation as their new normal now includes paralysis.
We are praying for miraculous healing and asking for your prayers and any assistance you can provide to go towards Chaun's ever increasing medical bills and household expenses.
