The Chattens woke up about 4:00 AM on Monday, April 6th to find the youngest member of their family, Kinsey, very sick from taking a lot of Tylenol pills. This was a complete shock to all and they felt very confused by it. Kinsey says she felt a panic attack that night and didn’t want to wake anyone. She took the Tylenol in an effort to make the feelings of panic stop. When she realized she took too much and felt really bad physically, the family was woken up. They rushed her to a local emergency room where she was treated for 4 hours and was then transported by ambulance to The Children’s Hospital main campus about an hour away. Her parents were not allowed to drive her. She was treated there medically until she was safe to be released to the Mental Health part of the hospital where she was held for an entire week. During her time in the hospital, Kinsey told nurses how excited she was to become a children’s nurse in a hospital someday. She told her parents she never meant to hurt her body and definitely did not intend to end her life, but the hospital treated her as a suicide attempt. This accidental overdose was by a child who did not fully comprehend what she was doing at that moment. Kinsey was shocked by the consequences of her actions. Since she returned back home, she is very healthy, happy, and unconditionally loved by her family & church. Praise God!
Kinsey has a wonderful Christian counselor who will continue to meet with her weekly. These sessions will cost hundreds of dollars each month. The bills for three hospitals, an ambulance ride, the Doctor’s charges, and medicines administered are very, very costly. The bills are astronomical. However, little did the family know their troubles were just beginning. They only have ChristianCare Medishare for help paying their medical bills; they do not have any other insurance. Every single expense has been denied related to this event and medical care. Medishare states that this child’s mistake is classified as "not being in accordance with living a Biblical lifestyle".
This family attends church faithfully every week, attends youth group, volunteers, and serves alongside their brothers and sisters in Christ. Kinsey hosts a group of 8-12-year-old girls, FaithGirlz, for Bible study and outings as well as a yearly Operation Christmas Child Shoebox party. For many years they have opened up their home for Bible studies to people of all ages and from all walks of life.
The denial of assistance with their expenses from a Christian organization has been a devastating blow to a family that has never had any prior major medical expenses or problems. They are desperate for any help to pay for this and are urgently asking for prayerful consideration to assist them during this time. They are asking for and are thankful for your prayers. They put their trust in the Lord.
