Chatorkhand Flood Appeal - Emergency Help, Reconstruction

I´m Sajid from Chatorkhand, Ghizer, Gilgit Baltistan, and my village in the remote, rural mountain area of Northern Pakistan has been hit by the worst floods in over a century. People have lost their lives, and already poor families had to watch their homes being washed away by the powerful water and landslides that came with it. Many of those hit hardest are left without the means to rebuild their houses or shelters for animals, and the lush green land they rely on to produce food and herd animals has been rendered a grey, muddy desert. The local infrastructure, including the historical bridge connecting Chatorkhand with Dain, has been widely destroyed within a matter of hours. Until now, there were only volunteers of the local community trying their absolute best to support residents with extremely limited means. No official desaster management is in place yet - no machinery, no professional workforce, no funding. More rain is forecasted, and the situation is tense, especially for the most vulnerable: those devastatingly poor or ill, as well as babies and the elderly. Drinkable water is becoming a scarce resource rapidly for everyone.

My goal is to help provide a perspective for those who have lost everything in this sudden and unexpected incident, where it became strikingly clear once more how global warming/ climate change and deforestation unfairly hit those who contribute the least to it the hardest.

Short-term, that means:

-providing temporary shelter

-financing and organising donations of basics like water, food, clothes, hygienic articles, beds, stoves

-helping locals to organise access to and pay for emergency medical treatment and medicine

-helping to save from the water and recycle as much and quickly as possible by providing tools and hiring workers

-enhancing local mobility: schools and shops need to be made accessible again

Long-term aims are:

-rebuilding homes and animal compounds/sheds, funding furniture

-re-fertilising land, supporting organisations/individuals that help agriculture and water supply recover

-finding sustainable ways to dispose of the waste caused by destruction

-investing in systematic protection from future damage

-reconstructing bridges and main roads
