Chasing Lavender
Donation protected
Fundraising for the filmmaking of our proof of concept video (3 minute visual expression) for chasing lavender, a feature film.
We will gather for a Freedom Summer round Mississippi, Louisiana, and Tennessee to produce a project like no other. The project will be a one-hour feature-length film entitled “chasing lavender.” CL will interrogate the intersection of motherhood and incarceration through the narrative of a young woman named Ma, who is currently on house arrest after some time in jail.
During her incarceration, Ma was at an early stage of pregnancy for her unborn child, lavender (Lavandula). The stress, negligence, and injustice of the system caused a miscarriage during her imprisonment. Now we join Ma through the most important day of her life - the day she plans to resurrect lavender by conceiving once again under the full moon.
As the story unravels, we are reminded that things rarely go according to plan. The more we fixate, the quicker things fall apart. Ma’s journey to liberation is quirky, deep and intriguing - an introspection on loss, love, and longing.
The project will be shot in one day, with many other days of preparation and meditation.
BUDGET:
$750 - housing
$1,500 - travel costs
$1,000 - crew compensation
$350 - food costs
-------------
$3,600 - total fundraising goal
