Chasing Kona: My Ironman Foundation Journey

Donation protected
Participating in the Ironman World Championship in Kona is a dream come true for me. My journey into triathlon began when my friend Anne encouraged me to join her for the Hawaii 70.3 in June 2023. At first, I was hesitant—especially about riding a bike—but Anne’s warmth and motivation convinced me to give it a try. That decision led to an unforgettable experience at the Kona start line, and since then, we’ve continued to train together, including for Ironman California in 2024. Now, I have the incredible opportunity to return to Kona in October 2025, this time as a representative of the Ironman Foundation, whose mission of Service Through Sport deeply resonates with me.

The privilege of racing in Kona comes with significant commitments, including a pledge to the Ironman Foundation for a race bib entry. The funds raised will help cover this pledge. I’m passionate about challenging myself, pushing my limits, and inspiring others to find their own challenges. While Ironman is technically a solo event, the journey is truly a group effort, and I’m grateful for the support of friends, family, and the broader community.

Throughout my training, I plan to share the highs and hardships with anyone interested—whether through conversations, updates, or stories. My hope is that by sharing my journey, I can motivate others to pursue their own goals and be part of something bigger. Thank you for considering supporting me as I take on this incredible challenge and represent the Ironman Foundation in Kona.

The Ironman is the ultimate test of endurance:
2.4-mile swim
112-mile bike ride
26.2-mile marathon run
Totaling 140.6 miles of grit, heart, and determination.

How You Can Help: Sponsor a Mile!
I’m inviting you to sponsor a mile of my journey—whether it’s the swim, bike, or run portion. Every single mile counts, just like every single donation.

Here's how it breaks down:

The Full Ironman (140.6 miles total)
$15,000 ÷ 140.6 miles = $106.68 per mile

Just the Swim (2.4 miles)
2.4 miles × $106.68 = $256.03 total

Just the Bike (112 miles)
112 miles × $106.68 = $11,968.16 total

Just the Run (26.2 miles)
26.2 miles × $106.68 = $2,789.81 total

Total Goal: $15,000 for 140.6 miles

Whether you sponsor one mile or several, your name will ride with me every step, stroke, and pedal and help me cross the finish line in Kona. I’ll be dedicating each mile to my supporters, and every donation brings me closer to representing our shared determination on one of the world’s toughest racecourses. You’ll be part of this incredible adventure—and I’ll be thinking of you at every mile marker.

Whether you can give $5, $50, or sponsor a full mile, your support means the world to me.

Thank you so much for being part of this journey. Let’s get to Kona—together!

With gratitude and determination,
Joy
