Here we go again last week we learned that Chases brain tumor has grown to an extremely dangerous size. It is causing a blockage to his ventricle and creating sever hydrocephalus.
Unfortunately there are no available chemos left that we haven’t already done. Surgery is
the only option and a necessity at this point. We will go in Wednesday to a new hospital
with a new neurosurgery team for multiple
surgeries. This Dr specializes in high risk
neurosurgery. There is a lot of emotion going
on here for sure. We will not be at the hospital or with the drs that have cared for Chase since he was diagnosed at 2 1/2 (now 17), we will
not be “regulars” where everyone knows
Chase and gives us special treatment. But that is ok! I believe with all my heart this will be
Chases miracle surgery that we’ve prayed for! I believe we were lead to find this surgeon
who believes (despite the risks) that he can
make a difference! Perhaps after this Chase
will get to live like a regular 17 yr old and not
sleep 18 hours a day with the other 6 being
filled with pain and suffering. Perhaps this
surgery will allow Chase to get to go to school in September and attend his senior prom.
People ask what the risks of the surgery are? I will give you the same answer the Dr gave us: “The risks of NOT doing this surgery FAR
outweigh any risks I could face during the
surgery”. Well that was good enough for me! We will be in the hospital for 2-3 weeks and
due to Covid I will not be allowed to leave.
Thank you Barry Turano and Cheryl La Rosa
for taking care of Sophia for me while I’m gone. Thank you to all my friends and family who
are continually reaching out with prayers and well wishes. The outpouring of love reminds
me how truly blessed Chase Turano and I are! I am so thankful that Chase has such strong faith and the strength of my father who I know is his guardian angel. He teaches me lessons of acceptance everyday! Please keep Chase in your thoughts and prayers Wednesday, please
pray for the ability of his surgeons and that
this awesome young man will have a life better than he ever knew as a result of this surgery. I share this publicly one because of my
enormous family but two because I believe in
the power of prayer❤️
Love Chase’s mom xoxo

Had some fun before shaving it all off for
surgery!! You’ll notice some of
Chase’s prior surgery scars that he wears very proudly!! So here’s the update: Chase had his craniotomy (brain surgery) Wed May 12th at
7:45 am. The new surgeon told us he was
optimistic that he may be able to get 50% of
this tumor. That was a number we did not think was possible as no one else would touch this at all given it’s risky location, never mind claim 50% removal! We were just hoping for some
de-bulking that would relieve Chase’s headaches and get us some more room in there = more time.
Dr Boockvar as I said was VERY adamant
about having his partner Dr. Langer and pediatric neurosurgeon Dr. Schneider by his side. Together these three miracle workers would
take The next 8 hours to perform this very
delicate procedure.
When I saw them walk out to talk to us after 6 hours my heart sunk but the smiles on their
faces told me it was good news. Not only did
they finish the surgery more than an hour and a half early, they were able to remove 90% of
the tumor YES I said 90%!!!!! I
literally almost fell on the floor, immediately asking them to say that again! I never, never in my wildest dreams ever thought I would hear someone say that number The surgery was such a success that they do not even need to
do the second surgery that was originally planned!!
Chase is in ICU with a breathing tube in
critical condition but that is to be expected.
Dr’s exact words were: “This was an extremely
successful procedure, however it’s going to be a very slow, long recovery to do this safely”.
We have had some scary hiccups but Chase
Turano is fighting the good fight as he
ALWAYS does!!
We won’t know until he is off the breathing
tube what, if any damage there was to his
vision or memory but I know this kid and I
firmly believe he’s going to be better than ever!!
I cannot begin to tell you how full my heart is
from all of the texts, calls, messages and prayers we have received. Please now how
appreciative I am and that I know my son is
absolutely covered in prayer while he goes
through this very difficult time. Please keep
the prayers coming I know they’re working!!!! God is so evident in my life and I know this
because I see miracles like this everyday ❤️ This is the absolute bravest kid that I have ever know and I am so incredibly honored that I was chosen to be his mother!! Chase always picks a theme song to get him pumped for
surgery. This time is was Won’t Back Down.
How appropriate!!!
So many people I’m sure, want to help Joanne and her family. We are all praying for Chase
who has been through so much. Chase has a
heart of gold and is a very talented boy. For
what he has been through, he complains very
little.
This campaign has been established for those
interested in directly assisting with what will
be a huge amount of medical expenses,
treatment-related travel expenses, as well as
covering everyday expenses including food
and household bills. If you would like to assist with their financial burden, any donation
would be greatly appreciated. Joanne has two other beautiful children and she has been
staying in the hospital and also staying in
hotels nearby the hospital. She hasn’t been
able to work. Joanne has always been strong but I’m sure this has to be one of the hardest.
Your prayers for successful treatments and
strength for Chase and his family are sincerely appreciated.
