A mother and father should never have to lose their son. A sibling should never have to lose their brother.
Yesterday morning (5/12/22), our dear friends Jessie (Littell-Cheney) and Trever Cheney, along with their three beautiful boys, met tragedy of an unthinkable kind. They lost their son and brother to an accidental overdose. Chase, who was just 16 years old, made a mistake when he took something he never expected would end his life.
Chase was the humor in a quiet room. He was the light in the dark. When you were around him, you knew genuine humor conjured only by a clever mind and quick wit. His brothers idolized him, his aunts doted on him, and while he may have put his parents through hell at times – what teenager doesn’t? – they loved him through every level of that hell and beyond. He had so many great things in front of him, including a new cousin on the way.
Chase was receiving help for his struggles. He was fighting his addiction and had been almost one year sober, but one mistake… one simple, stupid mistake cost him his life and broke the hearts of so many others.
In the aftermath of such an unimaginable tragedy, Jessie and Trever have learned that while they believed their insurance had verified Chase as a dependent, they never had.
This family is dear to so many. If they have it to give, they will. When someone is in need, they are there. Now, it’s our turn to continue the good they put out into the world. There is nothing we can do to bring Chase back or take away their pain; however, we can help relieve some of the stress they will feel while handling the expenses incurred from this immeasurable loss. It's up to us to remind this little family that all the good they put into the world is not in vain. It's up to us to show them that they are loved.
Chase was a loving son, brother, grandson, nephew and cousin. He will be missed so much.
