Chase is a happy and adorable baby boy. He loves books, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, his Kitty Kitty, Simba, and his family. Chase is always smiling, laughing, and is such a joy to be around. He brings a smile to everyone's face and it's hard not to fall in love with his personality and beautiful smile. Chase was also born with Goldenhar Syndrome.
Currently we are looking at how we can afford to enable Chase to receive an ear reconstruction surgery. Funds raised will be for this surgery and travel expenses; estimated to be around $60,000.
Unfortunately this procedure is considered to be an elective surgery so insurance will not cover any of the costs and we are doing everything we can to save money.
We are currently in contact with Dr. Sheryl Lewin located in California, who does an incredible job with ear reconstruction and is highly recommended throughout the Goldenhar community.
About Chase
Chase was born with Goldenhar Syndrome, also known as Hemi-facial Microsomia (underdeveloped jaw, cheekbones, eye and ear abnormality).
He was born without his left ear and dermoid cysts on his left eye. The dermoid cyst is currently causing an astigmatism in his left eye and will continue to grow overtime, causing Chase to require glasses and possibly, most likely, surgery to remove the cyst. On top of this, he was born with a smaller left jaw with some bone missing, many spinal anomalies and heart defects. He has 5 fused vertebrae in his cervical spine (neck), 1 that is fused to his skull, bony defect in his cervical spine (bone that is required to protect his spinal cord, is missing) and 2 hemi-vertebrae in his thoracic spine. He also has an ASD (A "hole" in the wall that separates the top two chambers of the heart) along with Mitral Valve Insufficiency ( a condition in which your heart's mitral valve doesn't close tightly, allowing blood to flow backward in your heart).
We currently do not know how much of his jaw is missing or if he has an ear canal. What we do know is, he will require many surgeries, a CT scan, MRI's, Xrays and echos to monitor his growth so we can intervene when necessary. We know he will need a few jaw reconstruction surgeries to lengthen his jaw as he grows, neck and back surgery, possible eye surgery and hopefully ear reconstruction surgery.
Chase has two older sisters and adoring parents. He is loved by many and everyone can only hope that he receives everything he deserves. We want nothing but the best for him and his future.
Thank you for your consideration and taking time out of your day to read about our son!
Funds raised will go directly towards Chase's reconstruction surgery and will help our family pursue this life changing path, and the most beneficial options available for him.
