Charlotte’s life changed in an instant this past April when without warning she was hit from behind by a semi tanker truck while stopped in construction traffic near her home. Just minutes after dropping off her daughter at school and heading to work, the semi, without slowing, struck the back of her vehicle, smashing its way through and wrecking several additional vehicles that were all stopped ahead of her in the lane before finally coming to rest. Witnesses reported how terrifying it was watching all the cars just being tossed around like toys; one described the sound of the crash as something they’ll never forget. Charlotte spent almost two months in surgical ICU, enduring four surgeries to repair organ damage and broken bones along her entire left side as well as multiple fractures in her spine and neck. She was released in late May. With the trucking company’s insurance currently still trying to deny responsibility for the accident, Charlotte has been facing over a million dollars in unpaid hospital bills that have now turned into a mountain sized obstacle in regards to treatment and care she must now receive after a recently terrifying diagnosis.
Despite her pain and the long road to recovery, Charlotte has tried to keep her spirits up. It took months before she could attempt to walk again, and with intensive rehab, she’s now able to move around with a cane or walker. She hasn’t been able to return to work, and as her medical bills and daily expenses piled up, savings have run out. Then, as if all of that wasn’t enough to absolutely defeat most anyone, as she’s continued to push ahead, attempting her best to begin to adjust, Charlotte received more devastating news: in October, she was diagnosed with Type 2 Endometrial Cancer. Doctors have planned an aggressive treatment which did start immediately, but her health insurance is currently maxed out due to care from the accident not being picked up by the liable party therefore making her overall bill an extremely large, unpaid sum. Unfortunately, hospital administrators are demanding a rather significant payment be made before they will even schedule the urgently needed life-saving surgery, and adhere to a strict payment plan after that. The ongoing cost of care is absolutely overwhelming and her personal morale has dramatically plummeted since the diagnosis. It’s beyond heartbreaking to see such an optimistic person who usually always wears a smile be tested to such lengths.
All money donated goes directly to Charlotte to help ensure her initial surgery is performed in a timely manner and to cover the ongoing treatments nearing thirty thousand dollars monthly of which she needs over the coming months. Funds will also help with travel for her care, daily living expenses, and any home modifications needed for her independence. Some support will go toward counseling for her daughter, who has shown incredible strength, even maintaining high honors in school, despite everything as well as gone above and beyond her usual routine, generously helping out wherever needed. Your support can help Charlotte and her daughter face these challenges with hope and dignity.
