The Seling Family welcomed a beautiful daughter, Charlotte, on March 20, 2024. Charlotte has not had the opportunity to join her parents and 2 brothers at home yet. Instead, Charlotte has gone through multiple procedures and a major surgery the day after she was born to connect her esophagus to her stomach. After this initial surgery, she became critically ill with a respiratory infection and sepsis causing her to fight for her life. Her road to recovery has been bumpy, to say the least. And it doesn’t end there.

On Wed, June 12th, 2024, Charlotte will have a serious open heart surgery to repair a congenital defect. Honestly, it’s a situation no child or parent deserves to be in.

While insurance will cover a good portion of the heart-related medical expenses, there are other significant costs to consider as well including an extended NICU stay, neonatologist visits in the NICU, surgeries, and so many other unforeseen medical expenses.

In addition to the medical bills, Steven and Ashley have had a reduction of income taking time off work to be at the hospital, while juggling caring for their 2 boys at home. They spend a significant amount of time at the hospital supporting baby Charlotte as her plan of care has not been straightforward. Charlotte has about 10 different speciality doctors supporting her plan of care. Steven goes every evening to the hospital to be with Charlotte, which was previously Steven’s time to get caught up with work or chores. Ashley goes every morning to the hospital to move Charlotte’s plan of care forward with each provider. Steve has been paying for additional help at work to make sure clients are taken care of. It’s been a big emotional and physical challenge balancing all the things, while also facing overwhelming life-threatening decisions for Charlotte’s care.

Every contribution will make a meaningful impact, giving Steven and Ashley time away from work so they can focus on Charlotte’s healing, rather than the financial stress this situation has caused.
