The Wonderful Sheltie Facebook Group is an amazing community of 19000 international Shetland Sheepdog lovers.
It was founded in 2014 by John and Hilary, in honour of their sheltie Robbie, who sadly passed away from kidney failure at just 6 years old.
After a period of mourning, little Charlie was welcomed into their home - and subsequently 19000 TWS members became instant extended family.
Unfortunately, at just 11 months old, Charlie and John were attacked by two off-leash dogs whilst walking in their local wood, the aftermath of which has been fairly significant and long-standing with both receiving nasty wounds.
Charlie was lucky to survive, and his injuries have been difficult to treat, with potential loss of limb an option at one point.
It's fair to say that the veterinary treatment Charlie received has been exemplary, with the vet using technology which undoubtedly saved Charlies leg.
This technology is called VAC Therapy, a device used to create a unique environment that has been shown to promote the wound healing process, reduce edema, prepare the wound bed for closure, promote the formation of granulation tissue and remove infectious materials, all while minimizing pain and discomfort.
As the vet had to 'borrow' this device, John & Hilary are hoping to provide them with one of their own using their own personal savings, together with donations received from The Wonderful Sheltie members who have expressed a desire to assist.
Hopefully, having their own kit immediately available will mean more beloved pets can benefit from this amazing treatment.
