Charlie’s Marathon Challenge
It all started when Charlie said:
“I’m running the Dublin Marathon.”
Before we knew it, he had roped in his dad (Denis O'Reilly), his brother (Billy O'Reilly), his coach (Ciaran Mason), his brother Luke’s pal (Harry Begley), and even his dad’s pal (Paul McCarthy).
Then last month, Charlie laughed and said:
“I’m only joking…..but you have to do it Dad!"
It was too late. Charlie was out but we were in ! No turning back now! Together we’ll run, walk, and crawl our way through 42km—because this is bigger than us.
We’re doing it to support two incredible charities that have made a real difference in Charlie’s life and in the lives of so many children and young adults with Down syndrome.
The Charities
The Together Academy - Founder: Therese Coveney (https://togetheracademy.ie/)
Why The Together Academy ?
Did you know that over 90% of people with Down syndrome in Ireland are unemployed? The Together Academy is changing that by providing training, employment, and real opportunities.
Your support helps keep their social enterprise café running.
With €20,000, they can employ extra staff in the café and training spaces—opening doors for 10 more young adults every year to gain skills, confidence, and meaningful work.
This is about more than jobs. It’s about inclusion, dignity, and independence.
N.B. Should we exceed our target, ( and we seriously hope we will!) any excess will go to fund a list of various much needed projects within the organisation.
The Down Syndrome Centre Founder: Peter Gaw (https://downsyndromecentre.ie/)
Why The Down Syndrome Centre ?
At the Centre, children learn, grow, and connect. But the current spaces can be noisy, making it difficult for some children—especially those with hearing or sensory challenges—to fully engage.
With €20,000, the Centre can soundproof its group and therapy rooms, creating calm, focused environments.
That means children and teens can get the most out of every therapy session, feeling supported, regulated, and ready to thrive.
This is about building spaces where every child can shine.
N.B. Should we exceed our target, ( and we seriously hope we will!) any excess will go to fund a list of various much needed projects within the organisation.
Thank you
Please consider donating, sharing, or cheering us on. Every step we take in the Irish Life Dublin Marathon is for the wonderful people these two charities support .
