My name is Charlie, and I am on a quest for healing and recovery.
In May of 2021, I almost took my own life—right before my 30th birthday. About a year and a half ago, I had to leave my job—this was before the law was passed which protected queer people from being fired for their identities. Losing job, apartment, and community was hard enough. Running on fumes and standing up for myself against an abuser, I almost lost the battle to suicidal depression. But I chose to live, and spent a full week in two hospitals. I am now choosing to ask for the help I need to recover, heal, and move forward—to believe my life is worth saving.
This campaign is about seeing that hope and belief come alive. I relocated to a much healthier environment and am hoping to make a fresh start—even though my mindset is different, I'm still feeling the impact of the past couple of years in my body. Imagine breaking your leg, but instead of rehab and rest, you have to keep running on it in order to make ends meet.
Moving into 2022, I am hoping to partner with 1,500 people who will pitch in $20 toward my recovery journey. I’ll be focusing on three things: physical health, mental wellness, and vocational training. Raising $30,000 will enable me to:
• Pay off bills
• Take one full year to focus exclusively on healing
• Seek counseling and therapy
• Truly rest for the first time
With your help, I will get fully back on my feet, fully equipped to face life’s challenges, and ready to create goodness in the world around me.
If you cannot partner financially, please share this campaign with others! It would really mean so much to me.
Thanks for caring—thanks for reading—and thanks for your support.
