Charlie's Emergency Care

I never thought I'd be making a Go Fund Me but here we are...

As many are aware, we brought Charlie into the emergency vet Monday night after he was having trouble breathing. After X-rays, ultrasounds and blood tests, it was determined that he had congestive heart failure, pleural effusion and pulmonary edema. He needed 24 hours of oxygen, IV of medicine, and an emergency thoracentesis to drain fluid from around his lungs to get him to breath on his own. He was diagnosed with a heart disease known as Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy which has no cure but can be managed with daily medication. The vets are also unsure of the cause and suspect other underlying issues due to a normal left atrium, which means more testing will be needed.

If you've ever head the pleasure of meeting Charlie you know two things: he isn't like most cats and I adore the hell out of him. He came to me at 5 weeks old as a little ball of puff and the relationship we have developed the past 12+ years is one of the best of my life. We nurture each other and have such an incredible bond. Mike has also loved developing his own relationship with Charlie for the past 6 years and being his cat daddy in this family of 3. This incident was such a shock to us considering he was playing just a few days before. Leaving him at the vet that first night was one of the hardest of our lives as we had to anticipate the fact that his heart might fail him and we may have never seen him again.  It has been a roller coaster of a time to say the least.

Now we have him back, but the cost was also completely unexpected - the emergency hospital stay, emergency procedures, oxygen therapy, and medications were all extensive, and still rising. He will need continues rechecks over the next few weeks with more ECGs, radiographs, medications, and other procedures, including an exam this week. We may not be able to afford any more visits for some time which means we may have to deny him care that could help him. We don't want him to end up suffering or having to put him to sleep just because of lack of funds. Charlie brings joy to so many. If you are able to donate, no amount is too small. If you can't donate please help spread the word. We're embarrassed to set this up, but we don't want to let our pride get in the way of being vulnerable in asking for help. Charlie is our baby and means everything to us. We just want our family to stay together for as long as possible. We're so grateful for any support.

** At the chance extra funds are raised it will be donated to local animal shelters.
