Charlies story
Charlie hadn’t had the best start in life , his home environment wasn’t the right place for him and he had escaped previously.
Sadly he was returned to the home but things didn’t work out , they clearly didn’t want him so instead of taking him to a rescue , Charlie was taken in their car down a country road and literally thrown out of the car in the pouring rain
The car then drove off at a speed and left him there , confused, scared, alone and dripping wet.
He was still only a puppy and did not deserve this treatment
Imagine how he felt ….
He was taken to a vet to be checked over and scanned where it became obvious that both of his front legs were deformed.
Charlie served his legal days and obviously wasnt claimed ( probably why he was dumped)
He was released to Spaniel Assist at this point back in August 2024 .
I had been liaising with the vet as they took xrays of his legs.
The results came back that he has an angular limb deformity, and looks to be significant elbow incongruency secondary to this.
They advised referring Charlie to a specialist for a forelimb CT to look at the elbow incongruency to see how severe this is , then a proximal Ulna Osteotomy will be needed -Angular limb correction.
This could be a genetic disorder or an injury ( Trauma)
For example if a growth plate is injured in a growing dog then it might stop growing and cause the bone to become shortened and bent.
We do not know for sure obviously.
Charlie did have his first operation on the 5th November 2024 which was a sucess after a long recovery period.
I did raise funds at the time and as always everyone was so supportive and generous.
On Wednesday 23rd July Charlie saw the specialist referral vet to have another CT scan on his other leg.
The vet referral specialist has advised that Charlie must have a second op on his other leg which has deteriorated rapidly.
He has preliminary booked Charlie in for surgery on the 26 th August.
The vet has given the cost of the Forelimb CT as £1,470
And the surgery would be approximately £6000
I will be raising funds for the Scan and the surgery so that Charlie can have a good quality of life and will be pain free.
He is safe in an excellent long term foster home , and is receiving the very best care and love .
Despite the cruelty he has suffered he is learning to trust and is responding really well to his long term fosters, they have been amazing with him.
Especially after his first op as he became reactive towards them.
The second surgery will change Charlies life and he will finally be able to enjoy a pain free life.
Charlie has recently been on his very first holiday with his fosters and absolutely loved it .
Hopefully the first of many
Thank you in advance
