Charlie Prom became a Longshoreman in Portland in early 2003. That's when I first met him. To say I knew him well would be an understatement. We worked together not just in Portland, but in nearly all of the Ports from Seattle to Coos Bay. We spent more time working together than we did with our own families. Those are the sacrifices fathers sometimes have to make. They spend time away from their families to support their families.
Charlie's family needs our support now. Charlie Prom was born September 21, 1980 and passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 7th at the age of 41.
His children were his pride and joy. Charlie was a father to seven children, that's including two step children that he raised as his own. On those road trips for work he often shared stories of their recent accomplishments, academic successes & athletic endeavors. His pride when Ritthi first dunked a basketball and the joy he took watching his daughter Gabby compete in gymnastics I remember clearly.
I am asking for support from his brothers and sisters from the International Longshore & Warehouse Union, those who competed with him in local poker tournaments and all others who came to know him as a friend. 100% of all funds raised will go directly to his family for the purpose of his funeral and burial expenses. Any additional monies raised will be for the benefit of his children during this understandably difficult time.
I've been in direct contact with his sister Elisabeth Beatty and his son Ritthi Prom. His sister is making the funeral arrangements and once that information is available it will be announced the Local 8 work line and posted on Facebook.
I offer my warmest appreciation in advance to all who are able to contribute for my departed brother Charlie Prom ❤ . It goes without saying that his family will appreciate any and all efforts as well.
*** Update Wednesday November 10th @ 1pm ***
The Outpouring of Love & Support that has poured in for Charlie is very appreciated and warms the heart of all of his family. Many are still contacting me and others asking what they can do or how they help. I wouldn't want anyone to see the initial goal was reached and turn away. I've increased the goal to 25,000. Four of his children are still under 18 with his youngest being 8 years old. Everything we can raise will help... ⚘♥️
