Charlie Mae - Tumor Removal

Donation protected
During this past week on Friday May 27th Charlie’s parents took her to the ER in Jackson for concerns about a swollen leg. The doctors did X-rays and an ultrasound but the family left that evening with no answers as the results came back normal. The next day her parents took her back to the hospital because it just did not seem normal. The doctors did more blood and urine tests and still did not find anything abnormal. Charlie was finally transferred to Mott’s Children’s Hospital due to increased concerns.

On the night of Saturday May 28th Mott’s staff took over Charlie’s care and decided to do another ultrasound on the swollen leg left and lower abdomen and found what they called a ‘large mass’ measuring 16 centimeters wide and 11 centimeters long taking up majority of her lower abdomen. They ordered additional testing, first a CT scan and soon after a MRI to confirm the doctors suspicions of the mass to be a tumor.

Charlie is scheduled for surgery on Friday June 3rd to have the tumor removed and biopsied for cancer.

Charlie is believed to be recovering at the Mott’s childrens hospital post surgery. We are not sure how long they are going to be there for and if they are going to have to have Charlie undergo further treatment.

This has caused unexpected financial stress on the family because we all know that insurance doesn’t cover everything. Any help would be greatly appreciated as they are trying to figure out how to pay for meals, gas, parking, lost wages, and the surgery that may not be covered by insurance.
