Paying tribute to Charlie Hausmann

Donation protected
Our father, Charlie Hausmann, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Friday, 28th June 2019, after his 8 month long battle with cancer, leaving behind his soulmate, Berlinde.

Charlie, was a loving, cheerful, cheeky and loyal man who touched the lives of everyone around him in a positive way. Mum (Berlinde) and Dad (Charlie), were the epitome of a loving relationship, they were soulmates. He was the father to four beautiful girls and six gorgeous grand children, who love and adore him dearly and miss him incredibly.

Throughout Charlie's 8 month ordeal he endured over 15 surgeries, all considered major surgery in his condition, over 10 radiation treatments, multiple immunotheraphy treatments, hypnotherapy, bone therapy and reflexology. He spent 6 of his last 8 months in hospital under 24 hour care requiring constant medication every 2 hours. Unfortunately due to constant infections, Charlie was not able to receive Chemotherapy due his weakness.

He fought until the very end and never gave up, working right up until the day of his surgery as he did not want to leave Berlinde (Mum) with the financial burden that was about to be incurred.

Although we cannot take away the pain that Berlinde (Mum) is left feeling from Charlie's (Dad's) passing, we are hoping to alleviate some of the financial stress from his medical, hospital and treatment bills, with an overall cost in excess of $40,000 over the past 8 months, and to assist with the funeral expenses.

I know a lot of us don't have much to spare but if you can spare even a small amount to help our mum out we would be eternally grateful.

Charlie's Battle with Cancer - TIMELINE

In late November 2018, Charlie was diagnosed with severe iron deficiency and received tests on his bowel, stomach and bladder. He was diagnosed with aggressive Stage Four Bladder Cancer, requiring immediate surgery on December, 2nd 2018. After this, he received further tests and the surgeons had discovered his cancer had now spread to his bowel, booking him in for another surgery on the 21st December. A day before this surgery, they discovered his blood count was severely low and he was given 9 units of blood just to get through the surgery.

On the 29th December a major infection occurred, which involved a procedure through his lower back to drain the infection, which left his haemoglobin levels at a low of 47. After this the infection settled down and things started to look positive, Charlie was out of hospital for three weeks and going strong.

Unfortunately, this didn't last for long as Charlie was again admitted to hospital with a high temperature when they discovered another infection and required further surgery every two days to attempt to clear it. It was here that they has discovered the cancer had spread to his bones, hips and base of his spine.

Charlie was unable to receive Chemotherapy as he was too weak and riddled with infections. The only treatments that could be provided were an extensive amount immunotheraphy and radiation treatments to give him a fighting chance and assist with his pain.

From here Charlie was moved to Palliative Care for further intensive treatment, where his suffered multiple roaring temperatures, his bowel had burst through his stomach, unable to walk leaving him bed ridden.

After months of solid fighting, Charlie started to get his strength back, was able to walk again, things were looking positive and Charlie was able to go home.

After approximately four weeks, Charlie was admitted back into hospital requiring further tests. These tests exposed that the cancer had spread to his arm and rib cage and he required emergency surgery, due to the risk of his arm breaking. The surgery was successful, however Charlie was not in the clear, as he was now being treated for severe pain in his chest and again unable to move leaving him bed ridden. Sadly, when his kidneys started bleeding, he was given one week to one month to live.

He passed just three days later surrounded by his family.
