9/13/23 Update: Weber had surgery on his back leg, and per the doctor the surgery went well! He has 8 screws and a plate put in and can come home this afternoon. Charlie has shown REMARKABLE improvement. Her heart arrythmia subsided, and she is now breathing on her own. They are hoping the hole in her lung can heal on its own without surgery. She is now able to stand for brief periods but still unable to use her left leg. The doctors are now trying different medications to see if that helps lower her blood pressure. Still a long road to recovery and no timeframe on when she will be strong enough to come home, but doing amazing given the circumstances. Thank you all for your prayers and support, the entire Dew family sincerely appreciates it.
Weber was able to see Charlie when he came back for his surgery. They were SOOOO happy to see each other, not a dry eye in the room.
Original Post:
On September 8th, my brother's dogs Charlie (female Great Dane) and Weber (male black lab) were hit by an oncoming car, both sustaining severe injuries, with Charlie's being life-threatening. They were rushed to IndyVet Emergency Hospital. Charlie currently has excess fluid in her chest cavity and stomach, which is making the surgery of fixing a hole in her lung too risky to perform currently. Weber has since come home but will need to return for additional surgeries on his back leg.
In June, my brother and his wife welcomed their first child, and with having a newborn, the costs of both Charlie and Weber's surgeries are impossible to cover, on top of multiple nights Charlie needs to stay in the hospital until she is stable for her surgery. Weber upon realizing his best friend wasn't coming home with him has done nothing but cry. Charlie was able to wag her tail and lift her head when she smelled her favorite toys and her baby brother's shirt. She is literally fighting for her life and desperately needs to come home to her baby brother and best friend.
These dogs are more than just pets to our family, and we are trying everything we can to help save their lives. Please give anything you may spare and pass along our story to anyone who may be able to help. Thank you
