Charley Grace ❤️

On Wednesday January 6th- close to midnight, Lynsey Alverson and her husband Cameron arrived at Novant  hospital in Winston-Salem for the much anticipated induction to finally meet their long overdue daughter, Charley Grace. Lynsey and Cameron, along with both sets of their parents had all recently battled Covid. Thankfully Cameron’s quarentine had ended and he was able to accompany Lynsey to the hospital to witness the birth of his daughter.

Thursday morning, Lynsey’s father Charles took a turn for the worst and was transported to the same hospital and placed on a ventilator. Lynsey’s mom Betty was helpless at home while all her loved ones were in the same hospital, yet she couldn’t be with either of them. Lynsey, focused on her labor, was unaware that her father was battling for his life just a few floors away.

Saturday morning, after a long labor, Charley Grace Alverson made her grand arrival at 10:27 AM weighing 8 pounds 7 ounces. Upon the arrival of Charley, Lynsey found out about her father. As you can imagine, this joyous time of becoming a mother was shadowed by concern for her dad, who happens to share a name with her daughter.

Once they moved rooms, a nurse noticed that Charley Grace appeared to have some breathing issues. She was taken to the NICU, and since Lynsey was Covid positive, she was unable to go with her. After a few hours on supplemental oxygen they saw a need for a breathing tube and little Charley Grace was intubated, just like her grandfather who was a few floors above or below. At this time the cardiologist also noticed something on an X-ray involving her heart, but they were not sure what it was at the time and required further investigation.

On Sunday, sweet Charley took her first ride as she was transported down the road to Brenner Children’s Hospital. It was there that after a few short hours, Lynsey and Cameron received the news that Charley Grace has a heart defect. Charley would then take her first helicopter ride to Levine Childrens Hospital in Charlotte, about 2 hours away to receive her first heart surgery. Charley landed safely in Charlotte Sunday evening.

To say that Lynsey and Cameron have been through a lot would be the understatement of the century. This is simply more than one family should have to deal with. By creating this GoFundMe, we are hoping to relieve some of the upcoming inevitable costs of medical bills, travel expenses, lodging in Charlotte to be close to Charley, food all while not being concerned about bills at home.

The Alverson and Greenlee families would like to especially thank you for all the prayers and love during this tough time.
