Greetings,
We are raising funds for Charles M Lloyd’s memorial service on January 19th, 2026. Please contact me if you have any questions.
My name is Sam Lloyd. My brother Charles Lloyd passed away on Monday, December 8th in Freetown Africa. Charles was a positive influence in both Washington DC and Sierra Leon Africa. From teaching photography at the Eastern Branch Boys and Girls club to establishing Lovejoy Jewelers, he was a powerful advocate for community development. His outreach continued when he moved to Sierra Leon Africa. Charles touched the lives of so many people in his journey through this life. His presence and influence will be greatly missed. From his early days with Marion Barry and Catfish Mayfield in Pride Incorporated, his focus was on youth development. He hired and taught teens at Lovejoy Jewelers , a black owned family business on H Street NE. He, his brother, and associates opened Building 922, a health food, afro clothing, and art store at 922 Kennedy Street, NW in the early 70s. I could go on and on telling you about my brother and his profound impact on everyone he met. Charles will be laid to rest in Africa. There will be a memorial service in the Washington DC area.
