Charles & Denise Lee Hurricane Ian recovery

Donation protected
We are Eve Lee Smith and Sharon Kelly Kaminski and Charles & Denise Lee are our siblings. We have started this fund raiser because they have been overcome by financial obstacles for the past 18 months, first with medical issues that wiped out their savings and then by Hurricane Ian. As their sisters we are trying to assist them the best we can by helping relieve them of some of the financial stress they are currently enduring.

Charlie and Denise have been together for nearly 40 years and about 11 years ago moved to Cape Coral, Fl to care for Denise's aging parents. In 2019 after losing both parents they purchased their first home. During the past 18 months they have been hit with one obstacle after another and still never gave up. In August 2021, Denise had to have life saving surgery after she had became sepsis with an abscess in her colon that required 2 additional surgeries and nearly a years worth of wound care. She had no health insurance and the medical bills have been piling up. In addition she has 2 autoimmune diseases which were complicated because of the surgeries and she could not be on her medicines to keep inflammation down. This inflammation takes a toll on other areas of the body and causes her to be in severe pain daily. She is now back on her medicine and will come through this but it will take months for the inflammation to reduce. She still has no insurance and has been skipping medical appointments because they were low on funds. Because she was out of work for so long their savings was depleted and bills pilled up. These are hard working people trying to keep and repair their home. At 70 years old Charles still works a full time job at the airport and Denise now has full time job which she can work from home. They were living very tightly trying to make ends meet and then Hurricane Ian reared his ugly head.

Cape Coral was hit very hard by hurricane Ian and they received significant damage to their home. They do have homeowners insurance, however they have a huge deductible of over $6,500 that they have no way to come up with. They are more fortunate that a lot of those in the area who have lost their home, they are safe and can live in the house but ... they are dealing with holes in the roof, leaks, and mold. They lost all of their food from a 6 foot freezer and surviving a hurricane and being without power for 11 days adds costs that you did not expect to have such as food, water, ice, coolers propane etc. and then unexpectedly the battery died in the car.

These are the most giving, loving and selfless people you could ever meet. They are willing to help anyone in need often doing without themselves to help others and never asking for anything in return. If you asked either of them today how they are, they would say we are ok it will all work out. But the truth is that they need help from all of us with medical bills and unexpected expenses from Hurricane Ian they are struggling. We would like to help raise the deductible, pay the outstanding medical bills and give them a fresh start.

Please know they are truly in need of this assistance and some of the most deserving people we know. We know that times are hard for everyone with the rising prices of gas, food, electric etc. But every little bit helps and we know they will be forever grateful. If you cannot make a donation at this time, please keep them in your thoughts and prayers and share this post. Thank you for your time and consideration.
