Hello, I’m Sarah Imboden, a Special Ed teacher and mother of two. My husband, Randy Field, is an artist and maker, and we live in Skokie IL.

Meet my older brother Charles. He has experienced a slew of challenges after having been the sole caretaker of his mother prior to her recent death.

Caring for his mother left him little capacity to care for himself and after losing her, grief made it even more difficult. Then he lost his job.

At the end of January, Charles injured his right foot. At the ER, they determined amputation was necessary.

Now three months and several additional surgeries later (removing everything up to a few inches below his right knee), Medicaid is saying his time at the in-patient rehab center is finished, despite having had his most recent amputation a mere two weeks ago.

With no local family support, no income, no transportation, and nowhere accessible to live, Charles agreed to relocate to our house in Skokie, IL.

We’re coordinating his efforts to enroll in Illinois Medicaid, find veterans services, and research his therapy and prosthetics options.

In the short term, however, our home is not suitably accessible and will need a decent amount of work to prepare for Charles’ arrival on April 14.

After adding up the costs of the necessary changes, we realized that we needed financial help from our friends, family, and community.

Any additional money raised above the goal will be put toward Charles getting new clothes and shoes to accommodate his prosthesis, and aid his transition to independence.
