Charlene Joy Cooper’s Lung Transplant

My name is Charlene Joy Cooper. I am a dedicated follower of Jesus Christ. I was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis on   24 July 2017.   Because there is no reason or connection as to why I have come down with this disease, it is considered idiopathic and makes me a candidate for a double lung transplant. My disease has now recently advanced to the stage where I have to be on constant airflow at 8 Liters in order to move about.  On 26 January 2021, my pulmonologist projected my life expectancy to be between 4-6 months if I do not receive a lung transplant.

My husband is a retired veteran so I am covered by Medicare and TriCare for Life. It will pay for all my medical expenses and medications, which is a huge blessing. Once I have the transplant, it is mandatory that we live close enough to Barnes Jewish Hospital, for 3 months, in order to go daily for wound care, post op therapy, and testing to find the right combination and dosage of drugs that I will be on for the rest of my life, so that my body does not reject the lungs. We are needing help to cover the expense of renting a place for those 3 months since it is not covered by insurance and we will still have our regular bills to pay.

I have prayed, and have many people praying on my behalf as well, as to whether I should have the transplant or not. I have specifically prayed, that if this is His will, that He would open all the doors for this to happen. That being said, I have received clearances from my primary care physician, my endocrinologist, my cardiologist, my urologist, my gynecologist, my dermatologist, my gastroenterologist, and my dentist.

My heart Catheterization came back with no problems. I got my mamo and Pap tests done and have been vaccinated  against the Corona virus.

I had to find a back up provider incase something would happen to my husband. My granddaughter has stepped forward to fill that requirement since the pandemic has made it difficult for her to find work.

I would appreciate, not only whatever financial support that you are willing to give, but would appreciate your prayers and your support in sharing this information.

May God continue to bless you and your loved ones.

In Christ,
Charlene Joy Cooper
