Charlee-Jade King's world was turned upside down on July 21st this year after she was diagnosed with a brain tumour

This is her story...

Charlee-Jade King should be at home in Horsham with her fiance, Luke, laughing and talking about stuff that doesn’t matter as they prepare dinner together, before snuggling up on the couch with her furbabies. She should be enjoying the intoxicating feeling that young love brings and experiencing all of the craziness and wonder of the beginnings of adulthood that many of us got to experience when we were 20 years old. She should be halfway through her second year of uni and beginning to feel proud of her accomplishments as she starts to see that all of the hard work, the hours of study and many sacrifices will soon be rewarded as she makes her way closer to her dream career. Charlee should be organizing her 21st, where she would be showered in LOVE by family and friends. Wedding plans and carefree celebrations should be filling her daydreams.
Although all that has come to a crashing halt. For Charlee-Jade’s life as well as the lives of everyone that cares about her changed forever with just one fateful phone call in July. An hour after having an MRI, Charlee-Jade received a call where she was instructed to go to her nearest emergency room immediately as a brain mass had been discovered.

Life can be devastatingly cruel and brutally unfair. To make the daunting situation even more unbearable she was informed loved ones were not permitted in hospitals due to current Covid-19 restrictions.

On July 21st Charlee-Jade was admitted to the oncology unit at Monash Medical Center, alone. As those around her struggled to understand the diagnosis, Charlee-Jade took it all in her stride. Her strength, courage, determination and resilience has shone through from the very beginning. Not once has she complained and as each day passes she demonstrates to all those around her the true meaning of BRAVERY.

"When something feels wrong it very well could be...
I don’t want sympathy or to be the center of attention.
For some time I’d get headaches and had become more clumsy.
Turns out I have a brain tumour beyond that fact right now everything is somewhat unknown But I’m on the path to sorting things out.
Look after yourselves people ... in this bloody shit year."
- Charlee-Jade King

On July 28th Charlee-Jade had surgery to remove as much of the tumour as possible.
Charlee-Jade helped ease some of our nerves as she was being prepped for surgery; sending funny pics and making jokes. She was fearless! And we were so bloody proud of how she was handling the day, alone. For nine excruciating hours we stared at our phones, waiting for the news that she was okay.

On August 7th Charlee-Jade was officially diagnosed with a Grade 4 Medulloblastoma brain tumour. Shane and Brooke were called to a meeting at the hospital with Charlee-Jade's medical team to discuss the results of the surgery.

"We got to hold our baby girl on Friday XO...
Charlee's recovering really well from surgery and staying strong; she blows us away with her bravery, we’re beyond proud of her xx
We had really hoped for better news from the neurosurgeon but unfortunately, they could not get all of the tumour and we are dealing with a - high grade malignant tumour, It’s really hard to say allowed and to even harder to begin to comprehend.... please know our family is feeling the love and support and are incredibly grateful to everyone for everything xx"
- Brooke (Mum)

On August 13th after twenty four long days, Charlee-Jade finally left Monash Medical Center. Smashing goals and kicking arse, she was now on her way to rehab at Casey Hospital. She has been progressing well in physio however she will need to stay there until medical staff clear to come home.

Moving forward there are still a lot of unknowns. Charlee-Jade will need to relocate back home to Melbourne where she will continue treatment as an outpatient at the Alfred Hospital. At this stage, she will need Radiotherapy followed by Chemo.

Charlee-Jade continues to blow us away with her ease and ability to absorb and navigate these incomprehensible challenges. Yet, as you can imagine, the impact this has had on Charlee-Jade and her loved ones is astronomical.

Please, may you find it in your hearts to donate generously to help Charlee-Jade and her beautiful family fight this cancer. Your money will not only ensure that Charlee-Jade and her family have everything that they need to fight this battle but it will also support Charlee-Jade as she continues to follow her dreams. Her resolve to beat this has not waivered. She is determined to get back to the beautiful life she had been creating prior to her diagnosis.

On behalf of Charlee-Jade, her family and friends, I would like to thank you all for taking the time to read Charlee-Jade's story. As I'm sure you would all agree, she is one very loved and special girl. We will continue to do all we can to help make this challenging time easier.
