Mojtaba (Mush) Almassi passed away at just 25 years old after a brave and painful battle with metastatic embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma. For a year and a half he fought harder than most people will ever have to and he did it with strength, grace and the biggest heart.
He was the kindest soul I’ve ever known, the type of person who would go out of his way to make someone smile even when he was hurting inside.
He had a heart of gold and a laugh that would brighten the darkest moments, no matter how tough things got he never stopped caring about the people around him.
Although his time with us was far too short, the impact he had on everyone who knew him will last forever. We miss him everyday and we are endlessly grateful for the time we had and the love he gave so freely.
In his memory, we want to honour Mojtaba with a form of sadaqah jāriyah (ongoing charity) by building charity wells that will provide clean water to those in need for generations to come.
This way even though his life on this earth has ended, the blessings and rewards of his kindness will continue to flow.
Every contribution no matter how small will help us build these wells in his name and ensure that his legacy of love and generosity lives on.
And those who donate will also share in the reward, As the Prophet ﷺ said: “When a person dies his deeds come to an end except for three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge or a righteous child who prays for him” (Muslim, 1631).
By contributing towards a well the reward continues for as long as people benefit from the water.
And even if you are unable to give simply sharing this cause with others is also an act of goodness. the Prophet ﷺ said “whoever guides someone to goodness will have a reward like the one who did it” (Muslim, 1893).
Thank you for helping us keep Mojtaba’s spirit alive through this lasting gift of water.
