Chari's Journey: From Heart Surgery to Hope

My name is Chari. I am 43 years old and a mother of 3, and yes, I’m a single mother. On April 22, I had a heart attack (Widow maker) leaving me needing open heart surgery. I was verbally mistreated by the doctor who would do my surgery, and another person at the hospital who was a witness to the mistreatment said, 'I’m going to find you another doctor because she isn’t the only one that can do your robotic surgery; there are 6 other doctors in the state of Georgia.' She got in touch with Emory Hospital, and they were willing to do my robotic heart surgery. Emory had me transferred to their hospital where I received the robotic open heart surgery. Because my health insurance hasn’t taken effect yet, I was able to receive help from the charity foundation; they paid all of my Emory medical expenses, $221,793, which was a blessing.
But i still owe the 1st hospital almost 30k.

I was in the process of moving to an apartment when I had the heart attack because the house I was living in was being sold. Because I didn’t take possession of the apartment within 3 days, the apartment was given to someone else, which left me and my 3 kids living with my mom in her senior apartment, where we are only allowed to stay 14 days. Now the apartments have another unit available which my kids and I can move into, but the problem is I have no income because I can’t return to work.

My job told me that I haven’t been there long enough to get FLMA or Short Term Disability. I was told that I could take 30 days unpaid leave, but it wasn’t guaranteed. That I could reapply. I felt that if I didn’t return to work, I wouldn’t have a job.

I basically pushed for my doctor to let me return to work so that I could get us a permanent place to live and so I would be able to pay bills and do for my kids.

When I went back to my job, I had to see the work nurse in order to fully return to work. After giving the nurse my paperwork, HR came in and said that I can’t return to work because they can’t accommodate me.

I was devastated and immediately felt overwhelmed and lost because I don’t know how I’m going to take care of my kids, keep a roof over their heads, or pay bills and be able to buy my medicine and pay the bills from the 1st hospital I was at before being sent to Emory.

I hope my situation touches your heart and that you are willing to help me not only support my 3 kids but give us the opportunity to have a home.

I have been to different places seeking financial assistance, and no one has funds.

To those you that know me know that I’m a hard worker and a great mom. I would give to anyone and help anyone. Now I’m breaking my pride and I’m asking for help.

I don’t know what else to do. I am desperate and limited because of my open heart surgery. So please, if you can find it in your heart to donate, it would be greatly appreciated.
