Help Char in her battle against cancer!
Donation protected
Char was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma cancer. It is non curable. The best she can hope for is the possibility of remission. This all started back in May 2023. She began experiencing back strain, hip pain, and what was thought to be some sciatic issues. Something she brushed off as being minor and could be fixed with a visit to the Chiropractor. As time progressed the pain intensified, and she was taken to the ER in mid July. Through bloodwork, biopsies, and tell-tale symptoms Char was diagnosed with cancer. Multiple myeloma is a cancer that forms in the plasma cells within the bone marrow. Healthy plasma cells help fight infections by making antibodies. In multiple myeloma, cancerous plasma cells build up in bone marrow. In this cancerous bone marrow, the cancer cells crowd out healthy blood cells. Rather than make antibodies, they make proteins/antibodies that don't work right. They work against and attack the body. While there are treatments for it, it cannot be cured, so additional treatments will be continuous and required every time it comes back. Through all this she will be more susceptible to illness, infections, bone issues, kidney problems, and anemia. These treatments may end up also requiring long distance travel for better care.
Char are people in the world who have more than just their kids. They adopt all the friends of their children too. They all call her Che. Or Chatsie. Matsie. Mama Chatsie. Ma. And you know what? She loves them all. She has also always been front and center throughout her career as to how you set the standard for customer service. Her hello and smile are well known in her community.
Char and her husband Rick have been together for over 52 years. They are both retired. This means they live on a tight and fixed income. While inflation has impacted everyone, it hits some harder than others. Char’s treatments are frequent and sometimes daily. At times she will have dietary restrictions. She cannot take herself to her chemotherapy and infusion treatments. Due to this Rick has to take her, which leaves no option for a man in his 70’s to find a part time job with employers who will let you come and go as needed and not work too heavily around many people to help protect from bringing home any additional viruses or bacteria.
Bills and additional expenses are accumulating and will continue to mount. Especially as more hospital stays and travel become required.
Every penny raised through this GFM will be used to offset those costs (co-pays, premiums, deductibles, medicines, food, etc).
Char is a fighter. Think Sophia from Golden Girls. She is a fighter but the battle is long and won’t really end. Struggling with your physical health is hard enough without the emotional and mental worry that comes with wondering if you can pay all the bills. Please consider donating to help not just with medical expenses but with gas and maintenance and other expenses that will surely occur as she continues to get treatment.
Please continue to say prayers for Char and send her love, well wishes and positive energy!
